  • Common internet banking logon and certificate problems
  • How to use the pre-fabricated NetShield

Download the pre-fabricated NetShield management software from the “Download Center” on IB homepage, install it and set a NetShield password. Open the IB NetShield management tool (double-click the IB icon on the system tray at the right lower corner of the screen), and click the menu “logon internet banking”.

The personal internet banking logon system always issues the notice: the verification code is invalid, or a notice is given immediately after logging on: this session has timed out, please logon again.

If an invalid verification code notice is always issued, please delete cookies in the “Option” ->” Internet option” menu. If the verification code fails to be issued please download the verification code patch from the “Download Center” on the IB homepage; if the verification code cannot yet be displayed, check the security setup of IE and set it to “medium”.

After installing the KB977377 and 971737 patches, they will influence the internet banking certificate logon

According to the announcement for KB977377 (patch description: substitute method for the server administrator to install prohibiting TLS and SSL re-negotiation), and KB971737 (patch description: installation of the updated program is helpful to strengthen identity verification credentials under some special circumstances), IB suggests for customers not to install the above patches; if you have installed them, please delete them with the “add/delete program” function in the WINDOWS operating system and then re-start the computer to logon to the IB internet banking again.

When the internet transaction requires a certificate signature, the system displays “error message: the object does not support this feature or method; prompt: the control may not have been installed or wasn’t installed correctly, after installing it please sign”.

A possible cause is that the installation of the certificate chain and signature control failed or is damaged. You may download the “certificate chain and signature control device” from the “Download Center” at the homepage.

When a customer imports a certificate to another computer, or the NetShield is changed to another computer, when carrying out a certificate logon the system displays the “the page cannot be displayed” message.

    There are three possible causes:

    1. After changing the computer, the certificate chain is not installed in the new computer. You may download the “certificate chain and signature control” from the “Download Center” and install it.

    2. There may be some problems with the configuration of the customer’s IE proxy server, “Security” in “IE – > Internet options – > Connection – > proxy server” is left blank. Setting the “Security” to the same proxy as the other items is required.

    3. Other IE configuration problems. Please make the following setup changes: go to the program column in “IE - > Internet options” and click “Web reset”; go to the advanced column of “IE - > Internet options” and click “restore to default setup”; go to the security column of “IE -> Internet options” and set the security level as default; go to the privacy column of “IE - > Internet options” and set the privacy to default.

What can I do if I forget the NetShield password?

First, check the type of NetShield; if it is a pre-fabricated NetShield (the NetShield ID begins with 95561) it needs to be replaced over the counter; if it is not a pre-fabricated NetShield (the NetShield ID does not begin with 95561) you may do as follows:

Step 1: initialize the NetShield: logon to the IB homepage (www.cib.com.cn), click “Download Center” to enter the download center column; in the “USBKey-related downloads”, according to the NetShield version download the corresponding NetShield initialization tool, then run the initialization USBKey tool.

Step 2: Go to a business outlet and apply to reissue the certificate.

Step 3: Logon to the IB homepage (www.cib.com.cn), click “Download Center” – “Certificate Download”, select the corresponding NetShield version, and download the certificate into the NetShield again.

When signing the certificate, how should “the property or method is not supported by the target” notification be handled?

In order to reinforce the security of the certificate, the China Financial Certification Authority (CFCA) has updated the certificate signature widget of our bank. Now, most customers can upgrade the widget normally. However, due to different computer circumstances, a few customers may not be able to do so. If you have encountered this problem, please try the following steps:

    1. Exit the personal banking system.

    2. Download the certificate signature widget and install it.

    3. Log on to the personal/corporate banking system to verify whether the signature functions properly.

    4. If the signature still cannot be used, please try to replace the browser (such as Maxthon browser or 360 browser).

  • Answers to common internet banking payment system questions
  • What is the internet banking payment system?

In order to improve the settlement efficiency of inter-bank payments through internet banking, help commercial banks to upgrade their internet banking services, promote development of e-commerce in China and to better perform central bank payment and liquidation responsibilities, the People's Bank of China has newly established an “Internet banking payment system” in the second payment system. The system can interconnect the internet banking systems of all commercial banks, support the access of non-financial payment service organizations which have payment business licenses under the approval of the People’s Bank of China, achieve efficient inter-bank settlement processing of e-payment business, for example: online payments, and real-time deposit of funds into an account with the relevant feedback sent to customers instantly.

Which personal-internet-banking functions are based on the internet banking payment system?

Based on the internet banking payment system, personal internet banking can provide real-time inter-bank transfers, transfers from other banks to our bank, execution of agreements on transfers from other banks to our bank, cancellation of agreements on transfers from other banks to our bank, inquiries into accounts from other banks, execution of agreements for inquiries into accounts of other banks, and cancellation of agreements for inquiries into accounts of other banks.

How do you activate the real-time inter-bank transfer function?

To use this function firstly you need to go to any IB business outlet and then fill out and sign the Industrial Bank “Natural Life” Family Wealth Management Card Usage Agreement, or activate the internet transfer and remittance service using the certificate.

If you intend to activate the any-transfer function, you are required to use your personal certificate or activate the SMS online-transaction protection function for the safety of your funds. If you activate the designated transfer function, this function can only provide transfers and remittances between accounts specified in the agreement.

Is there any limit on the transfer amounts for real-time inter-bank transfers?

The upper limit for a single transfer is RMB 50,000; real-time inter-bank transfers, and transfer and remittances are subject to the one-transfer day limit.

Can real-time inter-bank transfers be carried out during the holidays?

Real-time inter-bank transfers is a 24/7 service. If the People’s Bank of China’s system closes or shuts down, etc, this function will be temporarily suspended. For detailed information please refer to the Bank’s notices.

Using the online inter-bank payment system to operate the real-time inter-bank transfer service, in general how long will it take for funds to arrive in the account?

The funds will arrive in the account instantly. The customer can check the transfer results on the transfer submission page, or use the online transaction details inquiry function to check the real-time inter-bank transfer history details.

When using the real-time inter-bank transfer service, is it also necessary to specify the receiving account’s holding bank branch?

Real-time inter-bank transfers using the internet banking payment system do not require you to specify the receiving account’s holding bank branch, only the receiving bank, e.g. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) is required.

Which receiving banks support real-time inter-bank transfers?

Receiving banks supported include all banks joining the inter-bank settlement system of the People’s Bank of China. Please see the pull-down menu of receiving banks or logon to the website of the People’s Bank of China to inquire.

Why do transfers to another bank sometimes receive a successful transfer notification even when the funds haven’t arrived?

When encountering this type of problem it is mainly due to problems in the other bank when processing the transfer. In this instance the receiving bank sends us a funds-deposited notice, however the funds actually have not reached the target account. Please contact the recipient’s bank’s customer service center to inquire.

How can I use the function for transfers from other banks to this bank?

Before using the function for transfers from other banks to IB, you are required to specify an IB account and an account of another bank to sign an agreement between. You can initiate the signing in the signing-agreement column, or you can logon to the internet-banking system of another bank to submit an agreement notice to IB. After signing the agreement you can enter the page for transfers from other banks to this bank, where you may select an IB account for receiving, and then click “next”; from the agreement list signed you can select an account of the bank where you need to transfer from; and then you can just transfer from that bank this bank.

Are there any limits on transfers from other banks to IB?

When signing the agreement on transfers from other banks to IB, you can set the “upper limits for a single transfer amount, daily accumulated transfer amount, monthly accumulated transfer amount, daily accumulated transfer amount, and monthly accumulated transfer amount”. The upper limit for a transfer via the People’s Bank of China’s system is RMB 50,000. If you set the limit for single transfer amount above RMB 50,000, the upper limit for single transfer amount shall be the amount set in the system of the People’s Bank of China; if you set the limit for single transfer amount below RMB 50,000, the upper limit for single transfer amount shall be the amount set in the agreement.

To inquire about information regarding transfers from other banks to IB and the information of accounts from other banks, is activating SMS protection or a certificate for IB accounts required?

Activating SMS protection or a certificate isn’t required. All internet banking users may logon to the system to initiate signing an agreement or transact business.

Does IB charge any fees for inquiring about information regarding transfers from other banks to IB and the information of accounts from other banks?

During the promotional period of the service we do not charge any fees. In the event of charging any fees, IB will provide a bulletin on our home page. Please check IB notices for details.

Do other banks charge any fees for inquiring about information of transfers from their bank to IB and the information of accounts from their bank?

Other banks will not charge any fees.

How long will it be until the signed agreement on transfers from other banks to IB (or the agreement for inquiring about the information of accounts from other banks) becomes ineffective after cancellation?

Because the transactions processed in the internet banking payment system are all real-time based, the agreement upon cancellation will lose effect instantly.

Why doesn’t the certification page of the other bank pop up when I use IB internet banking to operate the agreement on inquiring about information regarding transfers from other banks to IB or information of accounts from other banks?

If the certification page doesn’t pop up, the IB internet banking will echo the error information of the other bank. This service depends on whether the other bank supports it. Some banks do not support the online execution of agreements; requiring the execution to be done over the counter. Please consult the customer service center of the other bank for details.

Why am I required to designate business types under the agreement when signing the agreement on transfers from other banks to IB at the internet banking terminal?

Because when executing payment agreements, describing the usages of all payments are required so the legality of the business types can be verified. During the use of the agreement after it is signed and comes into effect, when executing payment agreements the business types need be specified.

At the gateway after finishing a transaction, how can I check that the agreement has been signed successfully?

After the agreement is executed at the gateway, you can directly logon to the IB’s personal internet banking to check the agreement, or you may check it using the internet banking of the other bank designated in the agreement.

Can a successfully signed agreement be modified?

Once the agreement has been signed successfully it cannot be modified in any way. If you insist on modifying the signed agreement, you have to cancel the original one and then enter into a new one.

Why does the inquiry agreement submitted by China Merchants Bank to IB on the IB internet banking system using the agreement to inquire about a China Merchants Bank’s account fail.

This problem occurs when the signing agreement notice is submitted by China Merchants Bank (CMB) to IB, the bank number assigned by IB is not consistent with the name of IB in the system of the People’s Bank of China. This will result in an agreement that is in effect but cannot be used. Please initiate the agreement for inquiring about information of an account from another bank directly from the IB internet banking. A signed agreement initiated from IB will function normally.

    7. The debit card online payment page says that payment has been successful and my account has been debited, but the merchant says that they haven't received my payment, what shall I do?

After your successful payment, IB will handle the transaction in real time immediately: if the online merchant has an online payment direct link-up with IB, then the money will be transferred to the merchant’s account immediately; if the online merchant is linked with IB's online payment system through a payment service provider (e.g. a third party payment platform like Alipay), then the money will be sent to the payment service provider's account immediately.

If your payment account has been debited but the merchant is yet to receive the payment, it is possible that the merchant has not settled the transaction with the payment service provider in real time. Generally, if the payment has failed, the page will return an error message and tell you the specific cause of the problem, such as wrong payment password, insufficient payment account balance and over the payment quota, etc. if no payment result is shown, this is generally due to a breakdown in internet communication between your computer and the bank.

While the transaction password is used for withdrawals, transfers, enquiries and the authentication of online payment at the counter, ATM and the internet bank. If you have set a domestic consumption password, then use this password when swiping the card or withdrawing cash; if you haven’t set a domestic consumption password, then this password is only used when withdrawing cash.

The transaction password must be set through the telephone bank. It can be changed or you can choose whether to activate a consumption transaction password through the internet bank and telephone bank.

The card validity period can be found on the front of the card, just below the card number. It consists of MM/YY 4-digits, MM standing for the month and YY for the year.

    15. When paying online with the credit card, the last 3-digit number in the signature strip on the reverse of the card needs to be entered. What does this 3-digit number stand for?

The last 3-digit number in the signature strip on the reverse of the card is the CVV2 number, which you will be asked to enter during transactions. This is to guarantee the safety of your card. When using the card in certain places, such as in online transactions, your authenticated transaction information is needed.

    16. What is a credit card no swipe/password transaction?

Is online payment in RMB a no swipe / password transaction? If the password isn't needed, is it safe? Credit card no swipe/password transaction is a mode of transaction through the internet or telephone in which the user is not required to provide the magnetic information of the credit card or the transaction password.

Though the card holder doesn't need to enter the transaction password in a no swipe/password transaction, the card holder's ID number needs to be authenticated, and all business outlets that can provide no swipe/password transactions are highly credible outlets authenticated by IB; besides, such transactions are generally conducted when booking air tickets and paying for hotels, and the business risks are borne by the business outlet. If a fraudulent transaction is made, the recovery of the funds is guaranteed.

Online payment in RMB is a swipe transaction, but the user will need a transaction password to make a payment. Thus, IB's credit card online payment in RMB is a no swipe transaction with a password. As a dynamic SMS authentication code is needed as well, this mode of transaction is very safe.
