Adoption of the Equator Principles
◎ The Company publicly announced its adoption of the Equator Principles on October 31, 2008 , thereby becoming the world’s 63rd “Equator Bank” worldwide and China’s first.
Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction
◎The Company and the IFC jointly launched an energy-efficiency financing project (CHUEE) for Chinese public utilities in May 2006. Under the agreement, an innovative risk sharing mechanism was adopted to usher in the launch of China’s first energy-efficiency loans. These "green loans" are aimed at aiding domestic enterprises in the renovation of energy-consuming equipment and launching of energy-saving and environmentally-friendly projects, thereby facilitating the utilization of clean energies and reducing pollution and emissions.
◎In June 2007, the Financial Times and IFC (International Finance Corporation) announced the winners of the 2007 FT Sustainable Banking Awards. The Company was nominated for two awards, i.e. the Sustainable Deal of the Year and the Emerging Markets Sustainable Bank of the Year, and was named runner-up in the Sustainable Deal of the Year category, becoming the first and only Chinese financial institution to receive the award. In 2008, the Company was nominated for the Emerging Markets Sustainable Bank of the Year for the second time.
◎October 2007, the Company was invited to Melbourne, Australia to take part in a global roundtable held by the UNEP, during which it signed the Statement by Financial Institutions on the Environment & Sustainable Development.
◎November 2007, the Company held the Seminar on Social Responsibility and Sustainable Finance in Shenzhen, during which experts and scholars from Peking University, Shanghai Stock Exchange and other institutions were invited to jointly discuss the CSR fulfillment of commercial banks and the facilitation of sustainable finance.
◎November 2007, the Economic China Forum 2007 & Green Credit Innovation Seminar cosponsored by the IB, International Finance Corporation, Department of Resources Conservation and Environmental Protection and Energy Research Institute of NDRC as well as the Financial Times was successfully held in Beijing to advocate "Green Credit" and support China's initiative to facilitate energy conservation and emissions reduction.
◎December 2007, the Company and IFC co-sponsored the Energy-Efficiency Financing Guangzhou Roundtable, during which, World Bank President Robert Zoellick was present to give guidance and spoke highly of the cooperation and between the IB and IFC.
◎February 2008, the Company signed the phase II cooperation agreement for energy-efficiency financing with the IFC, under which, the IFC will provide risk-sharing loan of USD 104 million to support the bank in issuing RMB 1.5 billion Yuan of loans to energy-saving and emissions-reducing projects.
◎By the end of December 2008, a total of 86 loans (RMB 3.304 billion) has been offered to energy conservation & emissions reduction projects, which were expected to save 3,244,200 tons of standard coal and reduce 13,731,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year. Over the next three years, the Company will provide loans of RMB 10 billion to support the undertaking of energy conservation & emissions reduction in China. Financed projects are expected to save 60 million tons of standard coal and reduce 200 million tons of CO2 emissions.
Earthquake Relief
◎ After the devastating earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan that occurred on May 12, the Company, in response to calls from the Central Government and the State Council, donated RMB 22.94 million in total to the disaster area, of which, 10 million was directly from the organization, 8.78 million from employees and 4.16 million from “special party dues” paid by 3,720 CCP members of the company. A total of 2,555 employees voluntarily donated blood. The Company was the first of the domestic joint-stock commercial banks to grant loans for post-earthquake reconstruction, totaling at RMB 200 million, which covered the rebuilding of municipal facilities such as urban highways, water drainage systems and bridges and the removal and renovation of dilapidated houses.
◎ In the spring of 2008, the Company donated RMB 402,500 to the people in South China right after severe winter weather.
◎ In 2007, the Company donated as much as RMB 4.289 million to disaster areas and poverty-stricken areas in China.
◎ In 2006, the Company donated RMB 550,000 to the Fujian Red Cross Society for disaster relief in coastal areas in the wake of typhoon "Saomai".
◎ In October 2005, the Company donated RMB 2.2 million to support reconstruction effort in Fujian Province after the destructive typhoon "Longwang".
Poverty Relief
◎ From 2005 to 2008, the Company dispatched cadres to assume temporary positions at poverty-stricken villages in Xiapu County, and donated RMB 900,000 in total to help build bridges, roads and school buildings.
◎ The Company helped and supported several poverty-stricken villages, such as Huangtuqiu, Tielu and Shangqi villages of Xiapu County, Nanxiao Village of Pingnan County, and villages of Pinghe County, Zhangzhou, by allocating capital for poverty relief and road construction. Roads, bridges and teaching buildings were built and drinking water projects and “benefiting projects” were constructed. The employees at the head office donated RMB 84,695 to Shangqi village, which had suffered from a fire in March.
◎ The Nanchang Branch helped poverty-stricken villages of Ji’an City by raising a fund of RMB 100,000 to build roads and other rural facilities.
◎ The Ningde Branch provided RMB 230,000 for the construction projects of poverty-stricken villages in East Fujian, including new rural area construction, rural road constructio, and rural area drinking water projects.
◎ The Fuzhou Branch granted loans of RMB 742 million to support the “pioneering projects” in rural highway construction and the development of county-level power supply enterprises.
Donations to Education
◎ The Company donated RMB 10 million through the Fujian Provincial Charity Federation to set up the “Industrial Bank Charity Scholarship” which will be used to help 100 excellent but impoverished students of Xiamen University, Fuzhou University, Fujian Normal University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, and Jimei University complete their schooling from 2007 to 2012.
◎ The Beijing Branch raised funds of RMB 44,400 to assist the impoverished students of six primary and middle schools in Xiong’erzhai Township and Zhenluoying Township of the Pinggu District each year from 2006 to 2008.
◎ The Chengdu Branch donated over RMB 300,000 to build the “IB Hope Primary School” in Jinxing Township of Dayi County, whose successful opening gave children in a 10 kilometer radius the chance to go to school.
◎ The Xiamen Branch donated RMB 100,000 to Xiamen University on two occasions to set up the national key academic discipline development fund for the financial department and to support the department in studies on finance.
Charity Efforts
◎ In May 2008, the Company introduced the first credit card in China to be themed on patriotism – the “Chinese Heart” credit card, and launched the “Chinese Heart” public welfare plan to compliment it. The Company donates RMB 1 for every “Chinese Heart” credit card successfully issued, and RMB 0.01 for every purchase, progressive installment or cash advance transaction made using the card. The donations will be used for disaster relief and poverty alleviation by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.
◎ The Shenzhen Branch, together with the Shenzhen Red Cross Society, carried out collections for its medical aid special fund from 2004 to 2008, and set up “Red Cross Donation Counters” at all outlets, providing diversified financial services for the Shenzhen Red Cross Society.
◎ The Dalian Branch worked with the Dalian People’s Radio Station and the Dalian Red Cross Society to organize a large charity sale of T-shirts, named “Everyone wears a red-heart T-shirt”, from which the RMB 30,000 raised was used to support the “Go! Kids!” summer camp.
◎ The Zhangzhou Branch designated the 18th day of each month as the Industrial Bank Charity Day. Our employees have voluntarily donated nearly RMB 800,000 over the past 14 years.
