In the appraisal jointly organized by the China Finance Research Institute, China Finance Net and China Financial Journalists Club, Industrial Bank board chairman, Mr. Gao Jianping, was recently named “2008 Person of the Year in Chinese Banking” at the 5th China Finance (Experts) Annual Meeting and “2008 Chinese Banking Person of the Year.
Gao claimed the honor with a remarkable performance consisting of 91 expert votes (out of 100), 94 journalist votes (out of 100), 286,131 web-user votes and scores of 100 for responsibility, 92 for innovation and 93 for public confidence (Out of 100).
This year marks the fifth year of the China Finance (Experts) Annual Meeting and Chinese Banking Person of the Year Appraisal. Moreover, this is the second time that Gao Jianping has been named person of the year in Chinese banking after being awarded the prestigious accolade previously in 2006. The appraisal committee gave the following interpretation of the result: “Mr. Gao Jianping has turned the Industrial Bank from a bank with humble origins in Fujian Province into one of the country's elite joint-stock commercial banks. After two decades of dedication and commitment against the odds, today's Industrial Bank is a weight index stock with a market value of nearly RMB 100 billion in the Share A market and one of the world's top 200 banks. The bank's performance in a number of key areas puts it among the very top flight of banks in China , making it a key force in the Chinese financial sector.”
