Industrial Bank Donates RMB 2 Million for Disaster Relief in Taiwan

The most devastating Typhoon to strike Taiwan for half a century, Typhoon Morakot dealt a severe blow to Taiwan's central and southern regions, leaving a trail of destruction behind it. On the other side of the Taiwan Strait, the hearts and minds of the 20,000 employees of the Industrial Bank have been with the people of Taiwan throughout this time of difficulty. In an effort to help the people of Taiwan overcome this disaster and rebuild what has been lost, the Industrial Bank made a donation of RMB 2 Million Yuan through the Fujian Branch of the Red Cross Society of China on August 19.

Typhoon Morakot spawned torrential rains and devastating landslides as it ravaged Taiwan . As of August 19, the Typhoon had left more the 130 dead and almost 400 people missing. Morakot dealt a devastating blow to infrastructure, farmland and housing in Taiwan's central and southern regions, with huge economic losses being inflicted to agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries.

Separated by a narrow stretch of water and sharing a similar climate, Taiwan and Fujian share deep bonds in kinship, culture, commerce and religion. As a Fujian based bank, the hearts and minds of the Industrial Bank's employees have been with our brothers in Taiwan throughout this devastating time. Upon learning of the situation in Taiwan, the Industrial Bank contacted related institutions and expressed its willingness to aid the disaster relief and rebuilding effort in Taiwan. Subsequently, the Bank made a donation of RMB 2 Million Yuan through the Fujian Branch of the Red Cross Society of China on August 19.

The kinship between Taiwan and mainland China runs deeper than the strait that separates the two. Helping those in need in times of difficulty is a long-held virtue of the Chinese people. The Industrial Bank stated that as a socially responsible public company, it is willing to do its part to aid Taiwan in its effort to overcome this disaster and rebuild what was lost. It sincerely hopes that the people of Taiwan will make a rapid recovery and resume life as normal.
