IB Named “Best Corporate Governance for a Financial Institution”

Organized by the Center for the Study of Corporate Governance of Nankai University, Corporate Governance Index Release and Forum was held in Beijing on October 30th, 2010. The Industrial Bank had the honor of being awarded the prize for the “Best Corporate Governance for a Financial Institution”. Tang Bin, the Board of Directors Secretary of IB, attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the bank.

Viewing its public listing in 2007 as a new beginning and a new opportunity, IB established the concept of sustainable development as a core element of its corporate governance, and has committed itself to the innovation of its modes of business under the guidance of this concept ever since. Such innovations include the promotion of energy conservation and environmental protection, the development of “green finance”, being the first in the industry to launch energy-saving and emissions-reducing loan and adopt the “Equator Principles” in China, establishing a dedicated operating institution for sustainable finance and establishing the bank-bank platform model of cooperation. These commercial innovations, which are aimed at environmental and social sustainable development, closely incorporate the corporate governance, products and services, credit and inter-bank business and risk control systems into a whole, thus creating a new corporate ecology. It has allowed the bank to distinguish itself from the competition and gain a competitive edge, thus providing it with endless drive for sustainable development and benefiting all related parties in the process. According to the rankings of the Top 1000 Banks in the World for 2010 published by Banker magazine, a renowned British publication, the IB ranks number 97 as per Tier 1 Capital and comes at 93 in terms of total assets, which indicates that the IB has secured a place among the top 100 banks in the world.

The Center for the Study of Corporate Governance of Nankai University is an authoritative research institution in the field of corporate governance in China. It launched the Chinese Corporate Governance Index (CCGI NK) in 2004, which has had significant influence on domestic circles of theory and practice. This year, the center has listed financial institutions separately during the preparation of CCGI NK for the first time, and has created the prize for “Best Corporate Governance for a Financial Institution” to match. IB won this honor on the power of its advanced corporate governance concepts, solid corporate governance operation and outstanding business performance.
