Both Sides of the Strait Create “Green Finance”

Finance Round Table Conference Across the Straits

The ‘International Financial Crisis and Financial Cooperation Cross Straits” Round Table Conference was held at the 2009 Bo’ao Forum for Asia Annual Meeting on April 19. 30 guests present at the conference from financial circles, real estate circles and academic circles on both sides of the Straits exchanged their views concerning different financial policies and measures to cope with the crisis, and held deep discussions into issues such as strengthening financial cooperation across the straits.

The conference was jointly chaired by Chen Jinhua, Honorary Chairman of the China Association of Enterprises and Chief Consultant of Bo’ao Forum for Asia, and Qian Fu, Top Consultant of Taiwan Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation. Li Jiange, Board Chairman of China (Mainland) International Capital Corporation, Ma Weihua, President of China Merchants Bank, Lai Xiaomin, President of China Huarong Asset Management Corporation, Xiong Yan, Board Chairman of China Beijing Equity Exchange and Beijing Environmental Exchange, Wu Ying, Senior Partner of CTC Capital, Liu Yiru, Global Chief Consultant of Taiwan Daiwa Institute of Research and Professor of Taiwan University, Gong Tianxing, GM of Fubon Financial Holding Company Limited, Xue Qi, Board Chairman of Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation, Cai Hongtu, Board Chairman of Cathay Financial Holdings, and Zhang Xiulian, Board Chairman of Taiwan Financial Holding Company delivered speeches at the event. Speeches touched on such issues as the change in macro-economic situation and macro-economic thoughts, private banking business development and opportunities on the mainland, the financial crisis’s warning on asset management and impact on mainland investment, both sides of the strait creating “green finance” and reestablishing financial order and hopes and suggestions from Taiwan’s banking, securities and insurance industries regarding financial cooperation across the Straits. A number of special guests indicated that they were anticipating the soon to be held Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits and Straits Exchange Foundation’s 3rd Leaders’ Talk, and hope that a memorandum of understanding on financial supervision across the Straits can be signed at the meeting so that banks on both sides of the Straits can pool their resources and work together in countering the financial crisis.
