GM of Legal and Compliance Department Mr. Hua Bing Attends “CBN•Love for Green” Roundtable
On March 18, 2010, Mr. Hua Bing, General Manager of Legal and Compliance Department at the Industrial Bank, was invited to attend the launching ceremony for a series environmental activities entitled “2010 CBN·Love for Green” and participate in the “Roundtable Dialogue of the CBN Environment Summit” held by China Business News (CBN) in Shanghai. Mr. Hua Bing also conducted an exclusive interview with CBN Daily.
The “2010 CBN·Love for Green” series of environmental activities entitled are divided into five major areas: the Environment Summit; Environmental Protection Green Paper, “Green Medal Award” appraisals; the Annual Meeting; and the Presentation of Awards. The series of events will last for four months, with the purpose of calling on enterprises to protect the environment and the earth by using their commercial might and persisting with “green development” featured by low consumption, low emission and high efficiency so as to respond to the commitment made by the Chinese Government “to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of 2005”.
The Environment Summit is a sub-brand of the environment series launched by the CBN in October 2009, focusing on themes such as anthropogenic climate change, energy conservation and environmental protection and health for life, probing into the serious problems facing the survival of the human race from a macro perspective. The honored guests attending each session are from governments (including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Health, etc,), enterprises and non-governmental organizations (including the United Nations Environment Programme, and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, etc). Mr. Xu Dingming, consultant of the State Council, director of the National Energy Advisory Committee of Experts, Mr. Huang Jiefu, vice-president of the Chicago Climate Exchange and Mr. Hua Bing, GM of the Department of Law and Compliance, Industrial Bank, attended the first session of the “Roundtable Dialogue of the CBN Environment Summit” in 2010, during which our general manager, Mr. Hua Bing, introduced the practical achievements actualized by Industrial Bank in respect to the adoption of the Equator Principles, promotion of loans for energy saving and emissions reducing projects and the establishment of a carbon finance service system. He pointed out that the Industrial Bank’s ideas and practice in sustainable finance conform to the goal of developing a low-carbon economy, and that IB’s actions in sustainable finance are commanding the attention of more and more clients towards environmental problems.
On the same day, Mr. Hua Bing was exclusively interviewed by CBN Daily, where Mr. Hua Bing talked about the first project to apply the Equator Principles, the problems encountered and the difficulties overcome from IB’s adoption of the Equator Principles to formal implantation of the first project, and how the banking industry should balance profitability and social responsibilities at a time when low-carbon finance is a surging trend. When the reporter mentioned that Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Construction Bank are also taking into consideration of adoption of Equator Principles, Mr. Hua Bing expressed that IB is willing to share its experiences relating to the adoption of the Equator Principles and in environment and social risk management with other banks, and also welcomes more banks to consider the Equator Principles to jointly establish a social risk management standard for the Chinese banking system and create a level playing field for financial institutions.
