NIBC Bank (Netherlands) Announced Their Adoption of the Equator Principles
On November 9, 2010, NIBC Bank of the Netherlands officially announced and undertook the adoption of the Equator Principles. Equator Principles were established in 2003 as a set of principles for voluntary adoption to identify, assess and manage environmental and social risks in project financing. Before announcing to adopt the Equator Principles, NIBC had acted according to requirements of the Equator Principles for some time. Officially adopting the Principles helps the bank to formalize what it has already done in practice. At the beginning of this year, the NIBC Bank established its sustainability policy framework that sets out environmental and social standards which clients are expected to meet. In addition, NIBC has become a carbon neutral organization and actively joined the global campaign to reduce carbon emissions. Officially adopting the Equator Principles, NIBC can demonstrate even more clearly its resolution and commitment to business cooperation with clients in a responsible and sustainable way. Up to now, there have been 71 financial institutions officially announcing their adoption of the equator principles. (data source: official website of the Equator Principles)
