IB Invited to the Seminar on the Sustainable Finance of Sino-Foreign Banking Industries

On April 20, 2011, IB was invited to the Seminar on the Sustainable Finance of Sino-Foreign Banking Industries in Beijing. The seminar was intended to introduce the Equator Principles and practices and experience concerning sustainable finance.

The Seminar was jointly sponsored by WWF and UNEP, and it was intended to conduct dialogues on sustainable finance in foreign countries and green credit in China. Topics discussed at the Seminar covered every aspect of global sustainable finance, including discussion of the corporate concept of banks’ sustainable development, sharing of experience in incorporating sustainable development into the daily operation of banks, introduction of specific practices in environment and social risks management of banks, sharing of cases where business opportunities for sustainable development were grasped, deliberation on the implementation steps of China’s sustainable finance in the next stage, and inter-bank cooperation at home and abroad, as well as beneficial attempts, etc. Many overseas financial institutions present at the Seminar were mainstream overseas financial institutions, including IFC, Banco Itau, Standard Chatered, FMO, Credit Suisse, DEG, Rabobank, National Australia Bank. In addition, the organizer also invited four Chinese banks that had outstanding performance in green credit and sustainable finance, namely, the Export-Import Bank of China, China Development Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank and Industrial Bank Co., Ltd (IB), to introduce China’s experience and practices and to participate in discussions at the seminar.

At the Seminar, IB centered on the subject of “the Equator Principles and Green credit: IB’s Practice and Exploration in Sustainable Development” and elaborated on how China’s green credit guided the sustainable development of the banking industry and the Equator Principles provided specific ways and means for banks to promote the concept of sustainable development. IB also shared the benefits brought by the Equator Principles to projects, banks, customers and society by sharing project cases to which the Equator Principles were applied.
