Industrial Bank was Invited to Attend the Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles and the Annual Studying Meeting of the International Finance Corporation

In the last 10 days of October 2011, Industrial Bank (IB), upon invitation, dispatched representatives to the Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles held by the Secretary Bureau of the Equator Principles in Washington and the Annual Studying Meeting held by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The theme of this Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles and Studying Meeting of the IFC was to review and discuss the strategic examination of the Equator Principles since the Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles in 2010 and the revision of the third edition of the Equator Principles. Presided over by Shaun Miller, the Chairman-in-Office of the Equator Principles Financial Institutions, the “Equator Principles Working Groups”, respectively responsible for application scope, climate change, social risks, reporting and transparency, rating, management, biodiversity, and extension reported the latest progress in the revision of the Equator Principles from the aspects of application scope, climate change, and social risks, etc., and summarized and analyzed the different appeals of the Equator Principles Financial Institutions for the revision of the Equator Principles. 104 representatives from the Equator Principles Financial Institutions from the five main continents held enthusiastic discussions on the influence of such revisions to the Equator Principles Financial Institutions, especially to those in emerging market economies. As the only Equator Principles Financial Institution in China and an important representative of the emerging market economies, IB shared its experiences from over two years of implementing the Equator Principles with the participating financial institutions, and stated its own views to the application scope, climate change factor added into the new performance standards, and other issue based on IB’s own situation.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) held the Annual Studying Meeting during the Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles. At the meeting, the IFC mainly introduced the key points of change in the new “Performance Standards”, and carried out case-based discussions and studying around the relevant knowledge in the new standards, providing a good platform for all Equator Principles Financial Institutions to have face-to-face communication regarding the new standards in combination with their own experience.

In the next stage, the Secretary Bureau of the Equator Principles will arrange the contents of discussions during this Annual Meeting of the Equator Principles and solicit opinions from all Equator Principles Financial Institutions, so as to finalize the third edition of Equator Principles.
