Industrial Bank was Invited to Attend the Chinese Banking CSR Training and CSR Meeting

From October 20 to 21, 2011, Industrial Bank, upon invitation, dispatched representatives to the 2011 Chinese Banking CSR Training and CSR Meeting held by the China Banking Association at Langfang, Hebei, and participated in the deliberation and election of the “CSR Joint Meeting System for Chinese Banking”, and proposed opinions and suggestions on the program for the appraisal of 2011 Chinese banking CSR.

The Chinese Banking CSR Training and CSR Meeting aimed to improve the CSR management level of the Chinese banking industry, facilitate combining CSR concepts and corporate strategies of all members with their businesses, and drive the performance of social responsibilities in the banking industry in a specialized, systemic, refined and international development direction. The meeting was presided over by Zhou Yongfa, Vice Secretary-General of the China Banking Association, and Ms Hu Yan from the CBRC Research Bureau and Chen Yuannian, Secretary-General of the China Banking Association attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

At the meeting, four experts in the field of social reasonability, Director Zhong Hongwu of the Research Center for Corporate Social Responsibility of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Manager Wang Xuezhu of the Sustainability Center of DET NORSKE VERITAS (DNV), Vice President Wang Jian of the Chinese CSR Research Institute of Beijing Normal University, and Mr Yin Gefei, Chief Expert at GoldenBee (Beijing) Management Consulting Co., Ltd. provided training, mainly including: core contents and the application of ISO26000 (international standard for social responsibilities); compilation of the CSR report based on the G3 standard of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI); introduction to the Guide for Chinese Enterprises to Compile CSR Reports (CASS-CSR2.0) compiled based on the basic national situation and development of enterprises and supporting software; best practices of CSR management and advice on the appraisal of CSR reports in the banking industry, and strategic selection and transmission of corporate social welfare responsibilities. The China Development Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and China Merchants Bank (CMB) introduced their practices in the management of social responsibility and experience in communication and cooperation with international organizations respectively.

In addition, this meeting deliberated and passed the “CSR Joint Meeting System for Chinese Banking”, and elected a chairman unit and 11 vice-chairman units for the joint meeting based on voting. Besides the China Development Bank being elected as the executive chairman unit, IB was honored as a vice-chairman unit. At the same time, the meeting also held group discussions over such topics as the construction of a framework for the “2011 Chinese Banking CSR Report”, data statistics and evaluation system table for 2011 Chinese banking CSR, and program for the appraisal of 2011 Chinese banking CSR. Participating representatives of IB proposed constructive opinions and suggestions on the appraisal program, in the aspects of design of medals, increase of transparency in the disclosure of grading information, and adjustment to the time limit for submission of materials.
